Eddy Merckx 753

Very cool colors on this one…

Eddy Merckx 753 with Dura Ace 7700 – a truly unique Merckx!!!

My hobby is restoring & refurbishing vintage bicycles. They’re done slowly and one at a time until they’re right, and after several lengthy test rides, each is sold for the price of the frame I start out with and the parts & refinishing needed to bring it up to my standards. I’m retired, so this isn’t something I do for a living. Instead it’s all about getting these amazing bicycles back on the road and in the hands of an appreciative new owner.

The bikes I put up for sale are very special and well executed creations: no junk, no swift flips, no dusty neglected remnants dragged up out of someone’s basement, no ‘original’ bikes with crusty grease and faded finish, just beautiful bikes that look, ride, shine and perform like new, that you will proudly show your friends, and that will last for decades. Most of my work uses Shimano components because I have all of the special tools for them, am familiar with how they operate, and know how to refurbish and adjust them.

This Eddy Merckx frame was made by hand in Belgium using legendary Reynolds 753 tubing and was refinished in metallic titanium for me by master painter Allan Wanta. It has a 57cm seat tube (measured center-to-center, or CTC) and 57cm top tube (also CTC) – very classic dimensions – and is an excellent size for a male or female rider 5’9″ (with long-ish legs) to 6 feet or so tall; I’m barely 5’ 11” and it fits me perfectly. Hard to say exactly what year it was built, but best guess is late 80’s.

The build includes all high-quality stuff, such as a Shimano Dura-Ace 7700 series group set; a 9-speed double with 53/39 chain rings up front and a 12/25 cassette in the back, probably the most versatile gearing combination you can buy. That’s a Cane Creek wheelset with ceramic sealed bearings (they glide forever), plus Continental Gatorskin tires in size 700 X 23, premium Jagwire cables and housing, polished Shimano aero seatpost, Fizik Arione saddle, Civia shallow drop bars, and a 3TTT stem. Check out the pictures to confirm the outstanding condition of each component.

This is a gorgeous bike and an excellent choice for the discerning rider who’s looking for a truly special ride- you won’t see many of these on the road! The price represents only the cost of the parts & materials used and is far less than you’d pay for a similarly equipped bike in a store.
