Mid-1980’s Eddy Merckx / 57cm / Full Dura-Ace / Columbus SLX tubing – $1700 (Greenpoint / Williamsburg)

This is a beautiful Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra model from the mid 80s, built up in full period Dura-Ace from the 7400 series. I am selling it with detachable ’89 Scott TT bars, the bars Greg Lemond won the closest Tour de France in history with. The bike has been scrupulously maintained, treated with Frame Saver to prevent rust, and the exterior kept waxed. It is being sold as pictured, except without the pedals, and the tires have been replaced with new Vittoria Rubino Pros. Specs follow, feel free to email for further pictures or info, or to come see the bike.

Frame: Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra with Columbus SLX tubing (this tubeset features helical “rifling” reinforcements around the stress points, notably the bottom bracket, to give it stiffness where it needs it while maintaining flex and lightness in other parts of the frame for a comfortable ride). Measurement is 57cm square (both the seat tube and top tube, measured center-to-center).
Wheels: both hubs are Dura-Ace 7402, the rear is laced to a newer Mavic Open Pro. I am including two cassettes, a Dura-Ace 12-19 and an Ultegra 12-24 for harsher grades. The latter can be used with the Dura-Ace lockring cog.
Groupset: All Dura-Ace 7400 series 7-speed, with indexed downtube shifting. Cranks have 42/52 chainrings. Bottom bracket is the original 7400 cup-and-cone type, which I like for its authenticity, but I have a sealed cartridge bb in the same spindle length, if you prefer this.
Cockpit: 3T 110mm polished aero stem with 40cm ITM bars. White leather Selle San Marco bartape in great condition.
Seatpost/Saddle: Aero Dura-Ace seatpost, pretty rare and one of the most beautifully machined seatposts ever. Saddle is a perforated white leather Selle San Marco Concor Supercorsa.
