Affordable randonneuse

Attractive price on this ($350 or offer).

Up for sale is a 1964 Gitane Hosteller.

I have completely tuned up this bike. It has new bearings and grease in the bottom bracket, the hubs, and the headset. All new cables and lined housing. The suntour front changer, front derailleur, and Huret rear derailleur are not original to the bike. The original plastic simplex is broken beyond repair. I do have some remnants of the front shifter and rear derailleur if interested.

Here are the specs:

3 Main Tubes Reynolds 531 steel – sticker is intact but slightly faded. Paint is in fair condition (scrapes, fading, scratches, etc) for a 51 year old French bike. No dents and the fork appears to be straight. Frame size is 22 inches c – t. The top tube also measures 22 inches c-t-c. The chainstays are 44cm. It is true touring/sport touring bike from the 60’s. There was a kickstand attached. I removed it, but as typical when someone uses a kickstand there is some paint missing from this area and some typical paint damage to the underside. Fork chrome socks have some surface rust – see pics.

Nervex lugs

Stronglight crank set – 3 pin with 45 X 52 double chainrings. Some surface rust, but in very good shape. I will remove the drive side to ship. I have a cotter pin remover.

Pivo stem. Handlebars are probably Pivo as well as they look original. New plastic bar tape. Stem is not frozen. I will remove the handlebars during shipping.

IDEALE Saddle with IDEALE seatpost clamp. Saddle has new leather and the original rivets were reused. I applied a light coat of Brooks Proofide to it. Seatpost is steel and has some surface rust. It is not frozen.

MAFAC Dural Forge brakes, hangers, pads, levers. Lever half-hoods with the adjuster bolts are very cracked, but are in tact.

Campagnolo high flange Grand Sport hubs & quick release skewers. Front skewer is missing the loop on the non-clamp section. See picture. 27 X 1 ¼ Rims with non-original tires. The tires are Panaracer Tour Guard 27 1 1/8 tires. The rear rim is original with the knurling on the section where the brake pad hits. The front rim is a replacement Araya.

14-17-20-24-28 Atom Freewheel Chain – Brampton France

Lyotard 460 A Pedals

Soubitez lighting – not sure if this works. missing front lens cover. Wires are not attached. Wires were originally routed under the mudguards. Not pictured, but will be included. No rear light.

Front and Rear Aluminum mudguards – the original owner removed the lower portion of the front fender. The rear has some dents. Rear rack in matching color
