Update, 22 July 2015: Now also on eBay:

Seller also raised the Craigslist price to $550 OBO. Still a good deal, in our opinion.

Wish we were in the market.

Original post from 18 July, 2015:

Our favorite PX10 color. Great price, too.

Hope one of you picks this up.

A personal favorite, though pity it didn’t come in any other colors.

Black PX10

Rarely seen. Looks extraordinary.

It really pains me to sell this bike, it’s one of the most beautiful I’ve owned. I’m moving though and need the cash.

I built this bike from the frame up. Every component on this bike is pretty special, down to the Simplex seatpost binding bolt. You should check out the drillium Stronglight chainrings and the matching drillium Nuovo record rear derailleur.

Besides that crankset, the main components are all Campagnolo Super Record or Nuovo Record, down to the headset and seatpost. The chain is made in France. The saddle is a wonderful suede thing made in Italy, and I’ve not been able to identify it. I can tell you that it feels great to the touch, and has light wear.

All the cables are new, but the tires are not. If you plan to ride it, you’ll need new tires. I’ve not ridden this bike outside since I’ve built it.

A few more notes:

The clamps holding the brake cable on the top tube are Dia Compe. I’ve replaced the bolts with stainless steel hex bolts, so they won’t rust or brake off. The stem and handlebars are 3TTT, and will require a not-quite-standard 7mm hex wrench to remove. The brake hoods are generic ones off Ebay, but they are brand new and feel great.

There are a few scratches here and there, but all in all this is in much better condition than most PX10’s you’ll find here.

It’s riding on 700c Torelli rims and Sachs Maillard hubs. The rims have stainless steel eyelets, and the hubs have cartridge bearings, interestingly enough. The rear is a 7 speed freewheel. The pedal and bottom bracket threadings are both French, as is the fork I imagine.

Postscript: the bike (eventually) sold for $465, which we think is shockingly low for such an exquisite example.

Though some might find it sacrilegious, we think this is an excellent reimagining of a PX10 as a single-speed cruiser.

Of course, the conversion could benefit from some more attractive/higher-end parts (starting with that saddle), but at that asking price, we have no complaints.

1971 Peugeot PX10 – singlespeed townie 59cm – $340 (crown heights)

Ride a french legend, without the hassle or the worry. This is the real deal, but tamed & rebuilt for street use and now ready to ride – for someone around 5’10” or taller.

59cm (c-c) frame has the worn paint you’d expect, but is straight, true and has no rust. Double butted Reynolds 531 tubing throughout, including stays & fork, with hallmark Simplex dropouts and Nervex lugs of a classic PX10. In place of original tubeless racing rims, simplex shifters and dropped bars, this bike is now rigged with period Wienmann singlespeed wheels and commuter bars equipped with modern grips and brake levers. Mafac brakes have been replaced with more elegant Universal Super 68s from the same period, and the original Stronglight cranks – in fantastic shape – have been re-threaded to take conventional 9/16 pedals and are mounted to a brand new Velo Orange sealed bottom bracket (which may outlast you). Fresh chain, fresh cables, fresh pads. Near Franklin & Dean.
